What DPI should KDP images use?

Calculate the pixels required for a chosen print size.

Short answer

KDP paperback guidance specifies a minimum image resolution of 300 DPI. An 8.5 × 11 inch page therefore needs 2550 × 3300 pixels.

Steps

  1. Measure the final trim size in inches.
  2. Multiply width and height by 300.
  3. Check each source image before layout.

How to verify the result

Example: check whether 2550 × 3300 pixels is enough for an 8.5 × 11 inch page.

Check: This is a calculation aid, not marketplace certification or a print proof.

Frequently asked question

Does changing metadata increase real DPI?

No. Effective print DPI depends on actual pixel dimensions divided by print size.
